To celebrate Brain Awareness Week, the Rubin Museum of Art in Chelsea is extending an invitation to neuroscience post-doctorate or graduate students to take part in our popular weekly series, Lunch Matters.
Post-screening discussion with neuroscientist William Fishbein.
Amy Tan’s books and stories have included ideas, breakthroughs, and whole narratives unleashed during dreams. She believes that her creativity relates to a free-form combination of memory, emotion and sensory synesthesia leading to metaphors and narrative paths. She discusses the effect of dreams on creativity with Harvard clinical psychologist and dream researcher Deirdre Barrett.
About the Speaker
Bill Fishbein, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience in the Graduate School of the City University of New York. He is known for his research on sleep, dreams and memory, and his seminal discovery of the essential role sleep plays in learning and memory storage processes. In addition, Bill is a clinical psychologist who brings to bare the meaning of dreams in the many patients he has treated over 35 years in clinical practice.
On Now: Brainwave: Illusion
The Buddha said that everything is illusion. What did he mean by that? This sixth edition of Brainwave will enlist the aid of neuroscientists to help us understand how the perception of our world is shaped by the surprising adaptability of our brains. Brainwave includes talks, special film screenings followed by discussions, interactive workshops, and much more!
