Presented in association with the Chögyam Trungpa Legacy Project, Shambhala Publications, Shambhala Sun Foundation, Naropa University, and the Shambhala Meditation Center of New York.

The three volumes of this extraordinary work present a complete map of the Tibetan Buddhist path, as taught by the Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. It is based on the teachings presented at the annual three-month meditation and study retreats known as the Vajradhatu Seminaries, which he led every summer from 1973 to 1986. This remarkable material—which has never before been published—presents Trungpa Rinpoche's teaching in a way that joins traditional concepts with contemplative understanding.

The first volume, The Path of Individual Liberation, presents the teachings of the hinayana. The second volume, The Bodhisattva Path of Wisdom and Compassion, presents the bodhisattva teachings of the mahayana. The third volume, The Tantric Path of Indestructible Wakefulness, presents the vajrayana teachings of the tantric path.

About the Speakers

Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche is a widely respected teacher skilled in making Buddhist wisdom accessible to modern minds. He is also a poet, photographer, and visual artist. Born in 1965 in northeast India, Rinpoche was trained as a meditator and teacher by many of the greatest masters from Tibet’s final pre-exile generation. He is the founder and principal teacher of Nalandabodhi and Nitartha International. Nalanda West, Center for American Buddhism, in Seattle, is the primary seat of his educational and spiritual activities in North America. His latest books are Mind Beyond Death and Rebel Buddha.

Judy Lief is a senior student of the Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, who empowered her as a teacher in the Buddhist and Shambhala traditions. She worked closely with him as the executive editor of Vajradhatu Publications, as the dean of Naropa Institute (now Naropa University), and as the head of study and practice at several Vajradhatu Seminaries. For many years, Judy has been active in the movement to improve the way that we care for the dying and is the author of Making Friends with Death: A Buddhist Guide to Encountering Mortality. She is a founding member of the Contemplative Coalition, a project of the Global Peace Initiative of Women.

Shastri Ethan Nichtern is the founder of The Interdependence Project, a nonprofit organization offering Secular Buddhist psychology, philosophy, and meditation, as well as Transformational Activism. In the summer of 2010, Ethan was empowered by his teacher, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, as a Shastri, a senior teacher of the Shambhala tradition, representing the New York region. Ethan is the author of the novel, Your Emoticons Won’t Save You, and the acclaimed dharma book, One City: A Declaration of Interdependence. For the past 10 years, Ethan has taught meditation and Buddhist psychology classes and workshops in New York City and throughout the United States. He primarily studies in the Shambhala tradition under Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche but has also studied Theravadan and Soto Zen Buddhism.
