On a Tightrope
In an orphanage in the Chinese province of Xinjiang, children study the art of tightrope walking. As Uyghurs, China's largest Muslim minority, they carry on an ancient tradition. This short documentary offers an intimate look into the lives of four Uyghur orphans attempting the high wire and everyday life in the region, including how children are prohibited from practicing their Islamic faith.
Post-screening discussion with Uyghur scholar Arienne Dwyer.
