August: Super Heroes!

Listen to stories of heroes, guardians and superheroes from the Himalayas. Make your own superhero or guardian protector. Inspired by tales from the Himalayas and art in the galleries.

August 7- Sculpting a hero

Who is a superhero? Hear the story of a prince who went into the forest to look for truth and became a superhero for so many people. Who is your superhero? Sculpt your own superhero figure and share your story

August 14 - Hybrid Powers

Hear stories of guardian protectors from the Himalayas and see how some guardian protectors get their special powers from their half animal-half human forms. Create a collage puppet from the hybrid of two creatures to give your superhero special powers.

August 21 - Magical Masks!

Hear stories of guardians and superheroes from the Himalayas. Make a mask that represents your superpowers and enact out your superhero character

August 28 - Sticker fun!

Create a collage of your superhero figure using popular stickers or custom-made stickers inspired by the work of contemporary Tibetan artsist Gonkar Gyatso's work in the exhibition Traditions Transformed.

 

September - Celebrating Ganesh

The festival celebrating Ganesh, the elephant-headed Hindu god, falls in September. We invite families to join us as we celebrate the festival dedicated to this adorable deity who removes obstacles and loves sweets! Sculpt clay Ganesh, hear Ganesh stories, make garlands or sweets for Gansesh and join in a procession around the museum.

 

September 4 - Sculpting Ganesh

Hear stories about Ganesh, the one who has the head of an elephant and a huge helping heart! Find sculptures of Ganesh in the galleries and sculpt your own sculpture of Ganesh

September 11 - Ganesh loves sweets!

Celebrate the Ganapati festival by meeting Ganesh and his brother in the galleries and hearing a story about their race around the world. Make Ganesh's favorite sweet!  

September 18 - Garlands for the Gods

In India, beautiful garlands are offered to adorn deities on special festivals. Learn to make flower garlands for yourself or as a gift to Ganesh.

September 25 - Sculpting Ganesh
