Professional Development Packages for Schools
The museum offers dynamic professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers of all levels and subjects. Explore the role of object-based learning in the 21st Century, consider the intersections of museum engagement strategies and classroom teaching, and discover the arts and sacred traditions of Himalayan Asia alongside the Rubin's dedicated team of museum educators.
Programs incorporate unique guided tours, hands-on activities in our state-of-the-art Education Center, and curriculum development sessions to consider strategies for connecting with the museum’s resources, methodologies, and exhibitions.

Open-Enrollment Workshops
Take the lead in your own professional development! Sign up individually or with a fellow teacher. These workshops engage teachers in inquiry-based museum experiences, allow time for personal engagement with art-making, encourage participants to reflect on their own teaching practice, and help refine transferable skills that can be applied in the classroom.

Mountains, Minerals and Materials
August 21, 2013
2:00-5:00 p.m.
Discover unexpected new intersections between the museum and your classroom. In this 3-hour workshop, we will make connections between Himalayan geography, natural resources, and art materials through close observation and discussion in the galleries. Then, we will create personal works of art using genuine Himalayan materials, techniques, and processes during an exciting hands-on experience. Be inspired with new ideas for the 2013-2014 school year!
Program includes:
- Special interactive gallery tours
- Hands-on art-making with genuine materials and techniques
- Discussion about connecting the Rubin Museum to the classroom curriculum
- Takeaways for the classroom
- Complimentary museum passes for participants
- Please note: This workshop will not provide P-credits.
$25 per person, all materials included. Advance registration is required, and payment must be received by the start of program.
