Birthday Art Labs
Enjoy a festive and exciting birthday program for your child
and leave the planning to us!
Each two-hour birthday art lab at the Rubin Museum of Art is led by museum educators and includes an interactive tour in the Museum, an arts workshop in the Education Center, snacks, singing, and gift bags with special items from the Museum shop. Choose from multiple age-appropriate themes, and various catering options. Packages start at $1,325 for up to 12 children.

Birthday Art Lab Packages Include
- Exclusive use of the Education Center commons & studio for 2 hours.
- Thematic art lab, led by Rubin Museum Educators, includes guided exploration of the museum galleries and a workshop to craft take-home works of art.
- Museum admission for 12 children and 12 adults ($25 program fee per each additional child, up to 3).
- PDF Invitation template for printing or emailing.
- Gift bags for all children with special items from the Museum shop ($16 value, sample items: coloring book, pencil set, silly bands, etc.).
Program Fee: $1,000 (Maximum 15 children. At least 1 adult chaperone per 2 children required to attend program. Lab cannot exceed 35 people.) Museum members receive 10% discount for a program fee of $900.
Choose from two children’s snack options. Additional food for children or adults may also be added. Catering provided by Stephen STARR Events.
Tiger Birthday Menu: starts at $325
Includes 1 server + food and beverages for 12 children. $16 catering fee per each additional child. Excludes tax and gratuities.
Snow Leopard Birthday Menu: starts at $380
Includes 1 server + expanded food and beverage menu for 12 children. $21 each additional child. Excludes tax and gratuities.
Art Lab Themes
Drum Beats and Little Feet
For ages 2-5: Get moving during this wild and wonderful animal-themed party! In the galleries you'll listen to the story of a small but courageous jungle hero and join in a scavenger hunt for real and imaginary creatures from around the world. Journey back to the studio to craft damaru drums then use your instruments to make rhythms and animal noises together.
Super Sculptors
For ages 2-5: Squish, squeeze, and mold during our Super Sculptures birthday art lab. Tour the museum galleries looking for fascinating Himalayan sculptures and learn how these sculptures were made. Then let your imagination run wild as you make your own imaginary creatures out of clay. Use sequins, gemstones, and glitter to make your sculpture shimmer.
Gods and Heroes
For ages 6-10: Move over Spiderman, make way for Garuda! Explore Eastern and Western superheroes and make yourself into a living hero during this spectacular experience. What makes a hero? How do animals make heroes stronger? Design the equipment and gadgets you'll use to save the world.
Super Sculptors
For ages 6-10: Tour the museum in search of Himalayan sculptures and learn how these sculptures were made. The, become a sculptor and mold your friends into some of the forms you see in the galleries. Then, head back to the art studio to make your own imaginary creatures out of clay. Use sequins, gemstones, and glitter to make your sculpture shimmer and shine.
Important Information
- Birthday family is welcome to arrive 15 minutes before the party start time.
- Each Birthday Art Lab is 2 hours long.
- Birthday Art Labs are designed for children ages 2 to 10.
- Consumption of alcohol is not permitted during Birthday Art Labs.
- Gift opening is not permitted but a gift table and large bags will be made available so gifts from guests can easily be taken home.
- A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to confirm and hold the event booking.
- Full payment is due two weeks prior to the date of the event.
- Overtime fees ($150/30 minutes) and additional guest fees due the date of the event.
- Payment by credit card preferred.
