Transformative Treks

For millennia people of all faiths have embarked on the practice of pilgrimage, journeying to a sacred place or shrine of special religious significance, while proceeding at the same time on an inner, spiritual journey. Teens in the Transformative Treks Art Lab explored these important spiritual journeys in three of the world's largest religious traditions: Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam. Reflecting on what pilgrimage means to them and different aspects of pilgrimage through gallery discussions, trips and sessions with art professionals, teens made photographs in response to the theme of pilgrimage while acquiring digital photography skills. Check out their projects below in which they each developed a body of work to tell a story of pilgrimage.
