Internships

RMA offers internship opportunities for qualified undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students pursuing careers in the arts and museum fields.

Stipends and Credit

All RMA internships are unpaid. However, the benefits are significant and academic credit may be fulfilled by arrangement with the intern's college or university.

Deadlines for Internship Applications

Fall Semester: September through December - August 1
Spring Semester: January through May - November 1
Summer: Mid-May through Mid-August - April 1
Academic Year: September through May - July 1

How to Apply

All applications should be sent through email. Cover letters should be in the body of the email with the specific internship heading in the subject line. A recent CV or resume should be sent as an attachment. Any letters of reference should be sent as attachments as well. All application materials should be sent to our volunteers and interns coordinator at volunteersandinterns@rmanyc.org.

No phone calls, please.

Due to the high volume of applications for internships, only those receiving interviews will be contacted.

Volunteer


RMA offers volunteers the opportunity to gain exposure to the workings of an art museum and to contribute services to various departments within the museum.

Volunteer Requirements

Candidates must be willing to work a minimum of 4 hours per week and make a long-term commitment to serve as an RMA volunteer.

Qualified candidates should have an interest in Himalayan art or museums, a flexible attitude toward working with others, and an understanding that reliability is important.

Based on their interest and experience, volunteers will be assigned to work in a specific department and will report to a supervisor in that department.

Volunteer Opportunities

Theatre Hosts

Available program times:
Wednesday afternoon - 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday evening - 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday afternoon - 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday afternoon - 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Tasks Include: Placing museum materials on all theater tables. Opening theater and collecting tickets from program patrons. Answering general museum questions.

Skills Required: Maturity, ability to interact with the public, and ability to stand for extended periods of time.

 

RMA Ambassadors

Under the guidance of the Community Outreach Coordinator, RMA Ambassadors perform functions critical to communicating RMA's mission and offerings to myriad audiences, including NYC's senior, Spanish and Chinese language speaking, deaf and hard-of-hearing, blind and partially sighted, and immigrant communities, as well as tourists and Asian art lovers.

RMA Ambassadors travel throughout the five boroughs to distribute museum literature to community groups and institutions, and make personal contact with potential museum audiences. Other tasks include assembling mailings of museum literature and internet research. Candidates must have an ability and desire to travel throughout the city, and must be able to represent the museum with a highly professional, knowledgeable and courteous manner.

High School Volunteers


RMA offers high school students the opportunity to gain exposure to the workings of an art museum and to contribute valuable services to various departments within the museum. Requirements

Qualified high school volunteers should have an appreciation for museums, a flexible attitude toward working with others, and an understanding that reliability is important.

Based on their interest, the high school students will be assigned to work in a specific department and will report to a supervisor in that department. The time commitment is 6 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months.
